As the Jefferson School District attempts to balance the books, students in the Rigby-based district may be on their own trying to find books.
Elementary school librarians and secondary school library aides are out, as the district makes personnel cuts to erase a $471,000 shortfall, according to the Idaho Falls Post Register.
The budget troubles stem, in part, from a failed supplemental levy. While Idaho voters approved more than $130 million in school ballot measures on May 21, Jefferson’s $1 million supplemental levy received only 29 percent support.
“Frankly, I’m fed up with the (lack of) support from this community for public education and I don’t want to be a part of it anymore,” outgoing trustee Paul Hepworth said, according to the Post Register.
